Blas Na Bealtaine Food Celebrations

Enjoy the second of a four-week blog series featuring some of the events that took place during our month long Blas na Bealtaine food celebrations. Read our first post here.

First Up – Galway Cheese Chats

It’s the wealth of first class produce that makes Galway one of the best foodie destinations in Europe, so we were delighted to showcase our local producers throughout May. For instance, we had fantastic ‘Cheese Chats’ and ‘Meet the Cheese Maker Experiences,’ with Galway Cheese.

Guests enjoyed a cheese taster board during a discussion on how each cheese is made. The day included a hands-on opportunity to make Semi Soft and Tomme style cheese in a fully equipped and operational cheese room, gorgeous homemade scones, and a light lunch.

Savour the Wild Atlantic Way

Our ‘Savour the Wild Atlantic Way’ was a complete sellout event at Tom Sheridan’s Bar & Restaurant. This spectacular evening was a six-course wine dinner.  Head Chef Danny Kolanczyk and his team curated a truly tempting menu, using the finest of local produce found along the famous Wild Atlantic Way.

Featuring Killary Oysters, Connemara Spring Lamb, Fresh Atlantic Cod, Irish Cream Liqueur – and so much more.  The menu was brimming with the finest dishes from land and sea.

Friday Collab’s

We were so delighted that different venues came together with producers and chefs to create some fantastic collaborative pop-ups, including: Wild West Sourdough’s Vegan Sweet & Savoury Waffles POP-UP at Galway Bay Seafoods.

This pop up was at Aniar, a Michelin starred restaurant in Galway’s West End. Designed by Damien Martin (founder of Phi) & Chef Claudio Schiano, this absolutely stunning menu focused on sustainable cooking & zero waste, while also having a fun ‘Sunday Dinner’ theme.

Sonny Molloy’s Sweet & Savoury Whiskey Pairing with Micil Distillery was a hit with locals, as well as overseas visitors!

Guests enjoyed a Sweet & Savoury Whiskey Pairing with Pádraic Ó Griallais, founder and director at Micil Distillery. The evening included a cocktail on arrival, a savoury light bite to complement the impressive whiskey tastings, and a very special dessert course.

This delightful evening included an opportunity to learn more about this local distillery, which for over 170 years has preserved the craft of distilling extraordinary spirits using family recipes, craft knowledge and time-honoured techniques. Photography by John Walsh.
