View Festival

Blas na Samhna 2024 was nothing short of extraordinary. Our festival reached new heights with 25 diverse events unfolding across Galway, each one a testament to the power of food in bringing people together. From sold-out pop-ups to intimate wine tastings, the energy was electric, the engagement phenomenal, and the impact on local businesses unmistakable.

Galway’s food scene is built on a foundation of creativity, collaboration, and passion, and our 2024 November festival proved that more than ever. Against the backdrop of ongoing challenges in Ireland’s hospitality industry, Blas na Gaillimhe has become a vital platform fostering a thriving food network, elevating independent businesses, and connecting people through unforgettable culinary experiences.

Festival’s That Makes a Difference

Our festival’s don’t just celebrate food; they actively drive growth for the businesses that participate. During November, we saw an overwhelming response from both members and attendees, with events selling out well in advance, a significant increase in social media engagement, and businesses reporting a direct boost in visibility and customer interest.

João from Alma Restaurant, who hosted A Night of Portuguese Wine, Food & Brazilian Music, shared:

“The team at Blas na Gaillimhe did a terrific job of promoting the night. It gathered enough momentum to be fully booked a week before the event, and most importantly, we had no no-shows. Our social media following grew significantly, and that’s reflected in the number of bookings and walk-ins we’ve had since. We’re already planning more events and we can’t wait to be part of Blas na Gaillimhe in 2025!”

Similarly, Daróg Wine Bar saw a remarkable impact from their collaboration. Edel McMahon-Lukács, who hosted Writing on Wine, noted:

“Our event was a complete sell-out and a resounding success. We met new customers, created an incredible atmosphere, and now, inspired by this momentum, we’re launching Turas Fíona (Wine Journey) in 2025 — a six-part wine series featuring national and international experts. Blas na Samhna has been instrumental in helping us connect with our community in exciting new ways.”

For some, the festival was a game-changer in building connections and community. Tony and Claudio, who ran the SUD Italian Pasta Pop-Up, highlighted the unique value of the festival’s promotion:

“It’s just a great thing to be part of. I’ve always felt really supported — whether it’s through my pasta business (Pasta a Casa), pop-ups, or social media traction. I don’t advertise, so I rely entirely on Blas na Gaillimhe’s support, and I’m so thankful for that. The festival makes me feel part of Galway’s food community, helps me network, and raises awareness of what I do.

At Aniar Restaurant, the excitement was palpable as queues stretched for five hours at their Ramen & Bao Pop-Up. Chef JP McMahon remarked:

“This was definitely our most popular pop-up to date — exceptionally successful! Guests were already talking about our signature festival in May, Blas na Bealtaine.”

Growing Stronger Together

Last year’s festivals were more than just a celebration; they were a powerful reminder of the resilience and innovation within Galway’s food community. With over 1.59K visits to our website during November alone, interest in Blas na Gaillimhe has never been higher, and we are determined to make 2025 even bigger and better.

Blas na Gaillimhe is more than an event: It’s about celebrating the creativity that makes Galway’s food scene so unique, supporting businesses through meaningful promotion, and fostering a sense of community that makes our industry stronger.
