Fish on a slate dish at the Front Door Pub, celebrating Galway Food Festival

Enjoy the third of a four-week blog series featuring some of the events that took place during our month long Galway food festival.

ARMORICA Wild Wines Tasting.

This delightful evening included a welcome drink, sharing platters, wine talk & tasting by Zeeshan of Wild Wines.

During the third week of May we had some fantastic events, including a Book Reading in Charley Byrnes Bookshop.

Author & award-winning chef, JP McMahon, read extracts from ‘An Alphabet of Aniar: Notes For A New Irish Cuisine,’ followed by food and drink by Cava Bodega.

An Alphabet of Aniar: Notes for a New Irish Cuisine (2023) is a reflective companion piece to Jp’s previous publication, The Irish Cook Book (Phaidon 2020). Both books can be purchased via Aniar’s website.

A Taste of Galway Bay

Galway Bay Seafoods (Andrew, Shannon & Conor) hosted a very special event, where volunteers (ATU, School of Hotel and Hospitality, Kelly’s Oysters, fisherman – Patrick Oliver, from Galway Bay Boat Tours, and Anna King – Food & The Journey of Life – collaborated to raise funds for Galway RNLI. This event was also funded & supported by EU50, Galway City Council.

La Vida De San Miguel at The Front Door Pub

This bespoke evening was a celebration of Spanish food and beer, with live music.

On the night, Eric Matthews (former head chef at Chapter One) curated an exclusive menu of authentic Spanish dishes with The Front Door head chef – Ogie Galvin. The menu included twelve exquisite tapas – three dishes inspired by each of the four regions of Spain – to create a totally immersive Spanish tasting experience. Photos by John Walsh.
