Located in the heart of Eyre Square and part of the historic fabric of Galway City since 1850, The Skeff Late Bar & Kitchen is definitely a Galway institution. We are part of your night out in Galway. Boasting six bars over five floors, the décor reflects the history of The Skeff, but also brings it to life in the 21st century. With just under 10,000 square feet, The Skeff Bar & Kitchen is the largest bar in Galway city centre. The Skeff Kitchen’s hot lunch and evening offering has an emphasis on high quality, wholesome food. The Skeff Head Chef, puts a lot of time into the preparation of the dishes to make sure our customers get the best quality lunch in Galway. Mc Donagh’s have been tantalising the taste buds of both visitor and local for four generations. In our Fish & Chips Bar the fish is cooked to order, and you are guaranteed the freshest of Chips, as our potatoes are peeled and cut on the premises. You will find a variety of fish dishes on our menu. From Salmon, Cod, Scampi, Hake, Mackerel, Whiting, Smoked Fish and Ray. Other items on the menu include Fried Irish Chicken, Clarenbridge Oysters, Fish Soup and our Bake Cod Pie. Our Fish & Chips can be eaten on the premises or taken away. We also have outside seating on Quay Street.
Owned and run by the Grealish Family since the late 80s, this 800-year-old Pub is located in the heart of Galway City’s Latin Quarter and comprises a Pub, Bistro, and Live Venue over 3 floors.
The food at Kings Head is a celebration of the amazing ingredients that are on their doorstep. No surprise then that the menu features local seafood, lamb, beef and organic vegetables.
But it is in their dedication to the sea that the food at The Kings Head really comes to life, Crab Claws, Mussels, King Scallops, Oysters, award-winning Chowder, the catch of the day, Galway Hooker beer battered served with their signature chips (more on those later), and of course the now seasonal signature Lobster and Chips. The Chips at the King’s Head are fresh, hand cut and triple-cooked and are a stand-alone dish in themselves.
For over 20 years Head Chef Brendan Keane has led the kitchens at The Kings Head and he has, along with The Grealish Family, been a driving force in championing local produce and producers on their plates. Whether you’re sitting on a bar stool or in the Bistro, the food philosophy is the same – if it’s fresh local and in season, it goes on the menu! Using Local suppliers like Ali’s Fish Market, Sloe Hill Farm, Sliabh Aughty Honey, Friendly Farmer, Éamon Giblin Game, Kelly’s Oysters, Galway Bay Seafood and they even have their own Forager in Brian Gannon. Now how many pubs have their own forager?
At the bar at The Kings Head, you will find signature whiskeys, local gins, craft beers, cocktails, mocktails and creamy pints of stout.
The Kings Head now has it’s very own Craft Beer appropriately named Blood Red Ale, which is brewed locally by Galway Hooker in Oranmore. It’s a preservative-free, small-batch, traditional red ale which keeps its head, unlike a certain King!

The Hawthorn by Galway Bay
The Hawthorn by Galway Bay is Galway’s newest luxury hotel, with 114 guest rooms and sweeping views overlooking the Atlantic. Food sits at the centre of the hotel, built around fire, seasonality and the very best of produce from the West of Ireland and beyond. Executive Head Chef Cedric Bottarlini leads the culinary vision, with Director of Food & Beverage Henry Beaumont and Restaurant Manager & Wine Buyer Lily Eloy overseeing the guest experience.
The Skylark
The Skylark is the hotel’s signature restaurant, led by Head Chef Filip Turczyn and built around fire. A Vulcan grès charcoal grill sits at the heart of the kitchen, giving cuts and seafood depth and vegetables flavour through flame. The menu runs across breakfast and dinner, with large cuts, fire-roasted seafood and sharing plates. Lily Eloy curates the wine list, bringing together established labels, smaller biodynamic producers and natural wines.
The Aviary
The Aviary is built around Afternoon Tea and an exclusive loose-leaf collection from Lalani & Co, available in Ireland only at The Hawthorn. Sourced from family-run gardens across Japan, Taiwan, Nepal, India and Kenya, the collection is paired with delicate pastries, warm savouries and chilled Champagne, served daily from 1pm to 3:30pm.
The Oystercatcher
The Oystercatcher is developed with esteemed chef Takashi Miyazaki, the first Japanese chef in Ireland to hold a Michelin star. The menu combines Japanese precision with Atlantic seafood: oysters, cold soba, sashimi, Wagyu beef tataki, tempura. Cocktails are built in the hotel’s own lab using house infusions, fermentation and distillation, alongside sake and premium spirits. Lunch and dinner served daily.
The 2 Iron
The 2 Iron sits at the heart of the golf club, a place to gather over pints and hearty food favourites. It runs from morning coffee through to evening pints, built for relaxed, all-day dining.
