IL Vicolo

Il Vicolo first opened its doors as a cafe & wine bar on buttermilk walk mid-October 2011. Nearly 14 years later, we are now situated in the charming Bridge Mills building, overlooking the Corrib River, with a riverside terrace.

Serving a mix of classic and contemporary Italian dishes & pastas, all with locally sourced produce, as well as an extensive and exclusively Italian wine list. Our cocktail menu consists of signature drinks & mocktails and a carefully curated drinks menu.

We are passionate about all things Italian, and with live jazz every Sunday, Il Vicolo offers a unique dining experience that leaves you wanting to return for more.

Alma Restaurant

The story of Alma (which appropriately means “soul” in Portuguese) began in 2018. After a restaurant in the pitoresque Tiradentes village in Brazil, and a three times golden fork award winning restaurant in buzzing Lisbon – João and Márcia choose Galway out of their hearts for a new venture. Apoema Bistro was born in mid 2019, with a focus on the more traditional Portuguese and Brazilian food, and it thrived well enough to become a dearly place among the many restaurants in Galway.

Health problems lead to a temporary retreat, and in 2023 it reopened with a new name, new ideas and the same soul behind our good service and good food. Out of the traditional, more than just a Portuguese or Brazilian restaurant, João and Márcia are firmly at the helm – turning this as a place for new concept: food that speaks Portuguese.

We make use of some great Irish products and delve in to the roots, background and history of Portuguese gastronomy and how it influenced other cultures, and in turn was influenced by them, during centuries of roaming the globe and blending enough flavours to create one of the first modern border-busting cuisines, binding together the traditions of Europe, South America, Africa and Asia.

Such food would not be complete without a good wine. Over the decades Portugal has emerged from complete anonymity to become the proverbial hidden gem of the world’s wine producers, and we are proud to have a 100% Portuguese wine list, with the best choices gathered from our experience and sourced from great suppliers in Ireland.

In a city with so many flavours we are delighted to offer some unique ones, and we are proud to be part of Galway’s food landscape. See you soon.

Trieste Café & Wine Bar

Trieste Café & Wine Bar Opened on Valentines Day 2020. It was a dream to open our own cozy and cute Café & Wine Bar.

Our inspiration – Trieste in North-East Italy, famous for its visual splendor, gilded angels, sunrise-coloured facades, a port city of latticed alleyways and hushed boulevards. And home to James Joyce in his earlier years!

Trieste is nestled on Buttermilk Walk, just off Galway’s main thoroughfare, in the shadow of The Augustinian Church – Our appetite is to create a European styled Café Bar.

Bright, airy and spacious by day; warm, enchanting and relaxed by night.

We started our now famous Trieste Sharing Boxes in April 2020 to keep busy during Covid times, and we were amazed at the response. They are now available 7 days a week on our Online Ordering Website.

In service, both Indoors and on our heated outdoor area. Thursday 5pm Friday 5pm Saturday 4pm Sunday 4pm

Serving seasonal charcuterie & cheese boards, using fresh Irish produce, along with cured meats from the continent. A carefully selected wine list combining Old World classics and a New World sense of adventure.

We really hope you enjoy our taste of all things Italy, Spain & France.

Daróg Wine Bar

Galway’s new wine bar, Daróg (‘small oak tree’), on Lower Dominick Street is an intimate space offering a wide range of artisan, biodynamic, organic and natural wines, and a selection of hot/cold plates, cheese & meat boards.

Daróg is a labour of love for husband-and-wife team Zsolt Lukács & Edel McMahon-Lukács. Zsolt, a sommelier for twelve years in the Michelin-starred Aniar Restaurant, has carefully curated a wine list that promotes unique wines from small producers off the beaten track.

And Edel, with over fifteen years of design and marketing experience working with top-tier restaurants including Aniar, Cava Bodega, Armorica and il Vicolo, is channeling her passion for food, nature and local produce into Daróg.

The Kitchen is led by Attila Galambos, the three-time finalist in the prestigious Euro Toques Ireland and former sous chef for Aniar. Originally from Hungary, Attila combines his culinary experience in France, Japan, Denmark and Ireland with local suppliers and produce to guarantee that this “small oak tree” stays true to its roots, right here in the West of Ireland.

Daróg is open 6 days a week, Tuesday to Sunday. Tuesday to Thursday: 5pm to late

Friday – Sunday: 3pm to late. For bookings visit our website:

Burgers and beers bring people together and the seeds for BóTOWN were first sown during one of our summer barbecue parties. Our menu includes beef, chicken and veggie burgers as well as a wide range of side dishes such as Chicken Wings, Charred Corn on the Cob and Mac n Cheese Bacon Balls.

BóTOWN was a labour of love for us. The building is a protected structure and it took us two years to get it up and running. Our budget was tight so we did the whole clear-out ourselves. People thought we were mad to take it on but we had a vision and our motto was simple: dream BIG and never give up.

“We couldn’t have been happier when we finally opened the doors in July 2018 and we hope you’re as happy with the finished product as we are”.
